Frequently asked questions

Question

What Defines a Weed?

A weed can be any plant that grows where it is not wanted. For example, dandelions are often seen as weeds in lawns but are appreciated for their medicinal properties and culinary uses. Weeds thrive in various environments, from gardens to farm fields to urban landscapes. Their ability to adapt and flourish in diverse conditions makes them particularly challenging to manage.

Question

Why Are Weeds Problematic?

Weeds pose several issues for gardeners, farmers & property owners: Weeds compete with cultivated plants for essential resources such as light, water, and nutrients. This competition can lead to reduced yields in agricultural settings or poor growth in home gardens. Some weeds can harbor pests or diseases that affect other plants. For instance, certain weeds may attract aphids or other harmful insects that then spread to nearby crops. In residential areas, weeds can detract from the beauty of gardens and lawns. A well-maintained landscape is often marred by the presence of invasive weeds. For farmers and property owners, the presence of weeds can lead to increased costs associated with herbicides, labor for manual removal, and reduced crop yields.

Question

Is Weed Steaming More Affordable Than Organic Herbicides for Horticultural Purposes?

In many cases, yes. Customers transitioning from organic herbicides like Mirimichi Green to Satusteam often experience a significant reduction in costs. This is because organic herbicides typically require frequent multiple applications throughout the season, particularly to manage new weed growth or perennial weeds, resulting in higher material and labor expenses. Conversely, Weed Steaming provides longer-lasting control—up to 1.5 to 2 times longer than comparable eco-sprays—thereby reducing the frequency of applications and overall costs. Organic herbicides all work if you have enough volume and concentration to directly contact the weeds. However, these herbicides are expensive. Weed Steaming offers enhanced efficiency by penetrating the top layer of soil, effectively destroying weed seeds and reducing the need for frequent treatments. While organic herbicides may require reapplication every 14 to 21 days, Weed Steaming allows for longer intervals between treatments, drastically lowering overall treatment frequency and associated costs.
